This Privacy Policy explains how Plate — Calories AI ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: email address, display name, and a securely hashed password when you create an account.
Profile & goals: optional details you provide during onboarding, such as gender, age, height, weight, activity level, and nutrition goals. These are used solely to calculate your personal calorie and macro targets.
Meal data: meals you log, including names, nutrition values, timestamps, and optional photos.
Device data: a push-notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) if you enable notifications.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide the core service — calorie tracking, macro targets, streaks, and progress insights.
To estimate nutrition from meal photos or text descriptions using AI (see Section 3).
To send optional push notifications, such as meal-logging reminders.
To maintain and improve the reliability of the App.

We do not sell your personal data, show third-party ads, or use your data for advertising.

3. AI Processing of Meal Photos

When you use the AI estimation feature, your meal photo or text description is sent securely to our server and forwarded to a third-party AI provider (via OpenRouter) solely to generate a nutrition estimate. Photos are processed for this purpose only and are not used to train AI models by us.

4. Data Storage & Security

Data is stored on our servers and transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
Passwords are stored using industry-standard one-way hashing — we never see or store your plain-text password.
Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us (see Section 10). We will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your region, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us (see Section 10).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
