Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how we (“we”, “us”, or “the developer”) collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Glim mobile application (the “App”). By using Glim, you agree to this policy.

1 Information We Collect

• Account information — your email address, a securely hashed password, and display name, used to create and access your account.
• Learning data — the language you’re learning, your level, goals, and progress (XP, streaks, lessons completed, exercise answers). This powers your personalized learning path.
• AI conversation content — text and speech you send during AI roleplay/chat, so the app can generate relevant replies.
• Microphone / voice — when you use voice features, audio is captured and converted to text (speech-to-text) to power speaking practice. We do not use your microphone in the background.
• Push notification token — a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token, so we can send you learning reminders and updates (only if you allow notifications).
• Basic technical/usage data — device type, app version, and general usage needed to operate and improve the App.

2 How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalize the learning experience (lessons, exam prep, AI practice).
• To save your progress, streaks, and preferences.
• To generate AI conversation responses and speech feedback.
• To send notifications you’ve opted into (e.g., daily reminders, streak alerts).
• To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the App.

3 Third-Party Services

We share the minimum necessary data with trusted providers who process it on our behalf:

• Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging) — delivers push notifications. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
• AI language model provider(s) — your conversation text/speech is sent to our AI provider to generate replies. It is used to produce responses and is not used by us to build advertising profiles.
• Hosting / backend — our secure cloud servers store your account and progress data.

4 Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only: (a) with the service providers above to run the App; (b) if required by law; or (c) to protect our rights and users’ safety.

5 Data Retention

We keep your account and learning data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

6 Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR/EEA, CCPA/California), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights or delete your account and data, contact us through the App’s store listing or the in-app support option.

Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account in the app, or follow the steps at glim/delete.

7 Children’s Privacy

Glim is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8 Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (including password hashing and encrypted connections) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

9 International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

10 Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and update the “Effective date” above.
